Your veterinarian will palpate (feel) your dog’s body during her wellness exams to check for lumps and bumps that shouldn’t be there. But you don’t have to wait for a vet visit. You can palpate your dog every time you brush her (which provides a health benefit on its own by distributing protective oils throughout her coat and removing tangles and mats that can lead to skin infections). Just feel with your hands as you go. If something doesn’t seem right, you can take her in before waiting several months for the next doctor’s visit.
